Generator Interlock Installation · NORTH COUNTY

A considered approach to backup power.

A portable generator connection needs more than an inlet. The transfer arrangement, panel compatibility, and selected loads must work together.

IS THIS THE RIGHT NEXT STEP?

When to consider
generator interlock installation.

  • You want a planned connection for a portable generator.
  • You need an evaluation of an existing inlet or interlock.
  • You want to understand which household loads are practical.

DEFINE THE WORK

What the project
can involve.

We evaluate panel make and model, manufacturer-approved interlock options, generator specifications, inlet location, and intended loads. Compatibility cannot be assumed. If an interlock is unsuitable, another listed transfer arrangement may need consideration. The design must prevent utility backfeeding.

FROM ASSESSMENT TO INSTALLATION

A plan before
the work begins.

We review equipment documentation and site conditions before proposing work. The scope identifies compatible equipment, inlet and circuit routing, and any circuit relocation. Permits, inspections, labeling, and an operating walkthrough are addressed as applicable. Generator operation must follow manufacturer instructions.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR ESTIMATE

What affects
the cost?

Panel compatibility, inlet rating and location, wiring distance, circuit relocation, transfer-equipment selection, and access affect the estimate. Generator equipment is included only if specifically listed in the proposal.

We do not publish a one-size-fits-all price for work that depends on your home. Call to discuss an estimate.

Generator Interlock Installation

Your questions,
answered.

Will any interlock fit my panel?

No. Suitability depends on the exact panel and approved equipment. A generic fit is not sufficient.

Can a portable generator power everything?

Not necessarily. Generator output, starting loads, circuit priorities, and the connection rating determine what is practical.

Where should a portable generator run?

Only outdoors, well away from doors, windows, and vents, according to manufacturer and safety guidance. Never in a garage or enclosed space.
